Based on the works of the italian writer and psychiatrist Mario Tobino and inspired by Hieronimus Bosch's picture "The ship of Folls ", Dunkle Wasser is in many ways a cross-border project. First of all, because the choice for the ensemble of this project, which consists of Italian and German collaborators and made to be performed in both countries. According to Foucault, “only the fools can face the danger of the sea”, the fool, the "madman", is the first and last traveler to venture into unexplored areas of "dark water" on a ship that becomes the link between the worlds. On the other hand, Dunkle Wasser is also formally located on the border between reading, concert and installation. The form of a classical reading, which is still preserved at the beginning, is to be increasingly changed in the course of the performance, in favor of a musicalization of the text in which the form and sound of the language come into focus. The Audience and the performers share the same space as on board a ship.
